Facebook está determinada en explorar los caminos que abre el Blockchain, como demuestra la reciente adquisición de Chainspace, pero sus planes a largo plazo son un misterio
Una muestra de ello es que la división de Blockchain de Facebook acaba de adquirir su primera empresa dedicada a este sector. La plantilla de la compañía, llamada Chainspace, se ha unido a los 40 trabajadores de Facebook que conformaban su división de Blockchain antes de esta adquisición.

¿Pero qué quiere Facebook del Blockchain? La idea de que la red social esté buscando lanzar algún producto basado en esta tecnología no es nueva, pero además del hecho de las inversiones realizadas en el sector, no se conoce nada concreto. Chainspace se dedicaba a crear contratos inteligentes para acelerar las transacciones de Bitcoin, lo que podría ser una pista de lo que prepara Facebook.
Aún así, la adquisición de Chainspace se ha centrado solo en incorporar a su plantilla, ya que al parecer, la tecnología desarrollada por la startup (que consiguió 4 millones de dólares en su financiación inicial) no ha sido incorporada por Facebook. Se desconoce la cantidad por la que Facebook ha comprado Chainspace.
La red social no ha sido demasiado explicativa al respecto, y un portavoz se ha limitado a comunicar que, al igual que otras muchas compañías, Facebook está explorando el potencial del Blockchain, y que el nuevo equipo está explorando diversas aplicaciones de esta tecnología. Habrá que esperar para conocer en detalle los planes de Facebook en este sector.
